Roald Dahl’s Dictionary

Roald Dahl is one of the best authors ever, and what better way to honour him than a dictionary made up of his Gobblefunk language! The Oxford Roald Dahl Dictionary took over 5 years to make and contains all of the words that Dahl used in his books (nearly 8000!). Here are some of my favourite words:

  • Lixivate- Being turned into liquid and being squashed at the same time
  • Human bean- the BFG’s name for human beings
  • Jumpsquiffling- something absolutely massive
  • Bogglebox- a school for boys
  • Delumptious- something very delicious
  • Quogwinkle- the name for aliens
  • Splatch-winkle- when someone is hurrying about
  • Time-twiddler- something that is immortal

Keep reading, bookworms!
